Milan Half-Day Sightseeing Tour with da Vinci's 'The Last Supper'

Discover Milan and see da Vinci's masterpiece, 'The Last Supper,' on this 3.5-hour tour. Visit the UNESCO World Heritage site of Santa Maria delle Grazie to admire 'The Last Supper' in situ. Demand is high and the queues get long to see this masterpiece; choose this best-selling tour for advance booking and entrance tickets. Explore Sforza Castle and the La Scala opera house with your guide. Marvel at the scale and beauty of Milan Cathedral and learn of its long history. Explore the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping arcade, a highlight of Italy's fashion capital.

Milan boasts plenty of superlatives: It's home to one of the world's oldest churches, a renowned opera house, the most fashionable city in Italy, and Da Vinci's The Last Supper. You get to all this and then some on this 3.5-hour tour. Meet your guide near Sforza Castle in central Milan and head off to begin your tour. (The exact route will depend on your departure time.)

First, head to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie - a UNESCO World Heritage site - and feast your eyes on Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece, The Last Supper, in the sacristy nearby. Widely considered to be among the most famous paintings ever made, The Last Supper is thought to have been completed toward the end of the 15th century. Admire the intricate detailing and aged splendor of this depiction of Jesus' final meal with his Disciples as your guide talks about the techniques and tales behind it.

Continue onward to explore the Italian city of Milan, where centuries of history and heritage blend seamlessly with cutting edge styles and fashions. Explore the medieval Sforza Castle, an imposing citadel built in the 15th century to accommodate Milan's lords, ladies and landed gentry.

Visit the famous Duomo di Milano (Milan Cathedral), one of the largest cathedrals in the world. Stand in awe of its striking, Gothic architecture and marvel at the staggering 135 or so spires and 3,200 statues that line its enormous, stone flanks. Listen as your guide shares the cathedral's rich history before going inside to explore on your own.

Follow your guide to the Teatro alla Scala (La Scala theatre). Considered by many to be the most famous opera house in the world, La Scala has played host to many leading lights including Italy's own Luciano Pavarotti. Admire the theater's ornate stage, crystal chandelier and orchestra pit from your vantage point in one of the public boxes (unless there's a rehearsal or show on). Your entrance ticket provides admission to the theater and museum, which you may like to revisit for a longer period.

No tour of Milan would be complete without taking in some of the city's finest shopping hot spots - this is the world's fashion capital! Wander the chic boutiques and luxury stores of the glamorous Galleria Vittorio Emanuele shopping arcade, and admire the many luxurious items on sale.

After 3.5 hours discovering some of Milan's top attractions, return to Sforza Castle in central Milan where your tour will conclude.

Dolomites Day Trip from Milan: Renon Plateau and Bolzano

Spend a day in the UNESCO-listed Dolomite Mountains and explore Renon Plateau and the charming mountain town of Bolzano. After traveling from Milan by coach, take the Renon cable car and Ritten Railway to a picture-perfect village on the Renon Plateau and spend time at leisure admiring stunning mountain views. Watch out for sights of the ‘earth pyramid' rock formations that populate the area, and discover Bolzano's distinctly Germanic vibe on a walking tour with your local guide.

Meet your guide in central Milan and then travel northeast in the direction of the Dolomites - Italy's famously beautiful mountain range that's listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. After a journey of roughly 2.5 hours by coach, you'll arrive in Bolzano, the capital of Italy's South Tyrol province.

After a walk through town to stretch your legs, take the Renon cable car from the center of town to Soprabolzano - a small hamlet half-way up Renon Plateau. Traveling to an altitude of 4,006 feet (1,221m), the cable car lends sublime panoramic views, and as Bolzano slips from your view, the rolling hills and mountains take center stage.

In Soprabolzano, walk across to the Ritten Railway (known locally as the Rittner Bahn) to hop aboard a 100-year-old electric train for a scenic ride to Collalbo -- a chocolate-box village perched high on Renon Plateau. On arrival, enjoy time at leisure for lunch (own expense) or to simply stroll around and explore. The countryside that surrounds the village is unspoiled mountain scenery at its very best, and there are countless walking trails just waiting to be explored. The area is noted for its intriguing earth pyramids (jagged rock formations that jut out of the ground) and your guide will happily point you in the right direction should you want to see these up close.

At the pre-arranged time, meet your guide for your bus transfer back to Bolzano. Often described as 'culturally confused,' Bolzano became Italian only recently (during World War I), and its bustling beer gardens and Rationalistic architecture attest to its German roots. Take a walking tour around its town center, soaking up its Tyrolean ambiance, while hearing about its history and culture from your guide. Stop for photos in Piazza Walther and colorful Piazza delle Erbe, and then hop back on board your coach for the journey back to Milan.
